Lotus, a 19-year old BFA dance student
on a quest for meaning, struggles as she witnesses the world around her falling apart.
On the brink of giving up on college,
she meets a mentor who introduces her to the 13.8 billion year scientific story of the Cosmos.
Lotus discovers a unique capacity to see back in time prompting her to contemplate her place in the Universe. While Lotus' philosophy poet peer-group
cracks the code on every current issue
concerning humanity, Lotus feels the call of a reoccurring dream she has of a dark-haired woman galloping on horseback under the Milky Way.
Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us is a media arts initiative aimed to serve a broad public. In this cross-sector collaboration between University of Colorado Boulder’s Fiske Planetarium and CU’s Theater & Dance Department, together with a local playwright Rebecca Sophia Strong, local musicians and a Spanish interpreter, we are creating a cultural program that integrates traditional stage theater
with digital and emergent planetarium technology and tech-centered creative practices. This artist driven project inextricably links the arts, science and technology and is
a response to the growing sense of globalized anxiety in young adults due to racism, climate change and a lack of
a sense of belonging - we aim to inspire
hope and agency in young people.

Rebecca Sophia Strong is the author and visionary behind Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us. She is a trained psychotherapist in private practice and an independent Playwright/Screenwriter. Chosen for her visionary script & artistic excellence in bringing the arts & sciences into one unifying story, Rebecca Sophia has a lifetime of dedicated creative work at the intersection of education, performance art and science. As a response to a “crisis of meaning” in young people due to racism, climate change and a loss of a sense of belonging, along with Cosmogenesis, Strong created a 15- part, non-formal science curriculum and a one-woman show teaching the 13.8-billion-year scientific story as a message of hope and inspiration. Nominated for the MacArthur Fellowship, Rebecca Sophia is a TEDx speaker and has worked with Ithaca College, University of Minneapolis Minnesota, the WILD Foundation, University of Colorado Boulder’s Environmental Center and Fiske Planetarium sharing the message of Cosmogenesis.
